My experience with homelabing and free software. Adding up servers from freenas then pfsense and then using proxmox as hypervisor for services.

From figuring out which hardware to buy to price, feature and power consumption and feature upgrade path. Then choosing which OS to use for file server then a firewall for the network OpenWrt and pfSense then and adding a hypervisor to set up and experiment with VMs and containers at home using free software.

Will explain the shortcoming and plus points of the services as I discovered in the journey…
